Source Base for Studying the Activities of the Voyevoda’s Offices in Prikamye in the 17th -18th Century

Abstract

The article analyzes the source base on the activities of voivodeship administration in Prikamye in the 17th-18th century. The author has identified and studied archival documents in the fonds of the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts (RGADA), the Archive of the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences (NIA SPbII RAS), and also in the State Archive of the Perm Krai. The article characterizes archival fonds and archival documents. The thematic overview of archival collections and documents presented in the article introduces a source base for a comprehensive study of the interaction between the voivodeship authorities and local residents. The article substantiates the need for an integrated approach to the study of archival sources on the activities of Voyevoda’s offices in Prikamye in the 17th-18th centuries. Many documents are introduced into scientific use for the first time. The overview can be useful in studying problems of the voivodeship functioning during transit from estate-representative to absolute monarchy even in other regions of Russia. The article notes that the most informative materials on the history of voivodeship administration in Prikamye are kept in state federal archives. This is due to peculiarities of acquisition in the central archives in the course of the 19th century Archaeographic Commission activities. The materials on the issue stored in regional archives are fragmentary. The scientific novelty of the research is in the systemization of source base for studying features of regional administration. The article introduces main categories of sources, which are of use in describing the voivodeship functioning and relationship of the uezd population with representatives of the central apparatus on the ground. The author shows which source categories are there in federal and regional archives. In general, it can be concluded that the source base is sufficient for characterization the Voevoda’s offices activities in Prikamye of the period.
