The Karelian Isthmus in the Mid-1940s – Early 1950s in Documents from the Central State Archive for Historical and Political Documents of St. Petersburg (TsGAIPD SPb)
Abstract
The Karelian isthmus being a frontier necessitated specific policy of the Soviet state in this region. The article reviews Party documents ontheSoviet leadership policies in the Karelian isthmus rehabilitation and development in the late 1940s and early 1950s deposited in the fonds of the Central State Archive for Historical and Political documents of S.-Petersburg. The documents are ofgreat interest as the Party bodies played an integral role in power arrangement in the USSR. The author divides the fonds containing documents on the Karelian isthmus in three groups: fonds of regionalparty organs,fonds of local party organs and those of primary party organizations. The author analyzes informational potential of sources from eachfonds group. The author concludes that documents of the All-Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks)allow arrive ata comprehensive picture of problems, tasks and purposes of the Karelian isthmus development in late Stalinism. Moreover, sources allowmap out new research trends and set new objectives.
