Abstract

The article reviews photo documents from the personal archive N.O. Petrovanova stored in the Russian State Archives of Film and Photo Documents and retraces the biography of an amateur photographer V.V. Levitsky. Photo documents can be divided in the following thematic groups: studio photos (1880–1914); photos of the family (1880–1930);life of the cadet corps (1907–1914);the Orel Photographic Society (1908);panoramic photos of Crimea, Caucasus, Kiev, St. Petersburg, Orel, Kursk (1907–1914);panoramic photos of cities and towns in Italy, Switzerland, Finland (1914). Studio photos are represented by portraits on positive photographic plates and a photographic album of portraits that belonged to sister of V.V. Levitsky Elizaveta. Most photos in the album come from Kiev photostudios of G. Lazovsky, S.F. Eisfeld, N.A. Uzemsky and other. Among family photos there are studio portraits on positive photographic plates, ferrotypes, group photos and positive photographs on glass by V.V Levitsky and unknown amateur photographers. The studio photos were made in Kursk photo studios of L.V. Krasovsky, T.N. Nuzhdenko, G. Prizhago, in the Kharkov photo studio of A.K. Fedetsky and Orel photo studio of I.G. Varenik. Photos acquired by the Russian State Archives of Film and Photo Documents show the age, the people and their circumstances. Photosof V.V. Levitsky are of interest to researchers and professionals and should be studied in more detail.
