Archival Fonds of the State Archive of Contemporary Documentation of the Astrakhan Region

Abstract

Accessing this topic is important as the Archival Fond of the Russian Federation is one of the most important components of the cultural heritage of our people, an integral part of the world spiritual wealth. The article reviews the activities of the State Archive of Contemporary Documentation, history of its creation, its functions, composition of its documentary fonds. The creation of an insurance fond is highlighted. Initially, documents for the backup have been selected from the first category documents: fond 1, The Astrakhan Provincial Committee of the AUCP(b), 1899-1928, and fond 325, The Astrakhan Regional Committee of the CPSU, 1944-1991, counting 27240 items. Insurance fond on microfiche have been catalogued, a series created. An important part of archival collection are documentary sources stored in the State Archive of Contemporary Documentation of the Astrakhan Region that characterize the history of the Astrakhan region since 1917 in all its diversity. There is data on the Civil War, on the period of transition to the New Economic Policy, which coincided with the famine of 1921 – 1922, on the development of the fishing and salt industry, on the Party work in the countryside and among the national minorities, and other documents reflecting the life of the province. Fond 296 stores letters from the front and letters from soldiers’ families reflecting the life of the Astrakhan citizens during the war. Letters of the Astrakhan citizens provide have provided a basis for the book "Lines that were put to test by war: From archival documents on the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 from the State Archive of Contemporary Documentation of the Astrakhan Region." This book is the result of archive staff collective work. The museum fond is a complex of documentary historical evidence. Museum objects are items that in some way qualify for necessity of their conservation, study and public presentation (material, visual, written artifacts). The article shows that preservation and enhancement of the national documentary heritage, conservation of artifacts of national and world history remained the main purpose of archives at all stages of national archive building.
