Concept of the international on-line encyclopedia of World War I history

Annotation

In the article the concept of international English-speaking online of the encyclopedia of World War I is analyzed. Work is continued three years and will be complete in October, 2014. The editorial board consisting approximately of 90 known historians from 22 countries will be responsible for distribution and quality of author's materials. Up to the present moment the image of World War I concentrates on the Central and Western Europe. It, however, was only the all-European war, but also and the first really global war in a world history. It was also international economic war in which the numerous non–European states participated and for which the European powers mobilized resources of the colonies. These ideas will be an important component of the encyclopedia. The encyclopedia covers all important aspects relating to the First World War. Its content is divided into six subject areas: pre-war, violence, power, home front, media, and post-war. These headings were chosen in order to avoid methodological limitations and to integrate the various political, economic, social and cultural historical perspectives on World War I. While all regions with relevance to the history of the First World War are dealt with, the global perspective will be the key focus.
