Reporting the Guerrilla Forces Activities: Agent Reports, Intelligence Summaries, Statements, Reports, Memos
Abstract
The article reviews certain types of reporting documentation of guerilla forces and the military authorities over the guerilla movement, assesses their structure, circumstances of generation and informative value. The study draws on documents from the fond of the Belorussian Guerilla Movement Headquarters in the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus. Synthetic application of the principles and methods of research developed by the historical scholarship serves as theoretical and methodological basis for the article. Reporting documentation is an integral part of intelligence documentation of the Belorussian Guerilla Movement Headquarters, along with planning and organizational/management documentation. It includes all types of documents, among which the following should be noted: intelligence summaries of the Belorussian Guerilla Movement Headquarters, guerilla forces and intelligence division reports, various intelligence memos. The Belorussian Guerilla Movement Headquarters intelligence summaries are informative, accurate and detailed. The reporting documents relate not only the guerilla forces intelligence activities, but bear on economic and political situation in the occupied territories, plight of the cities and industries, slaughter of the population, countering German intelligence agencies, etc.
