Kursk Region Archival Sources on Home Guard and Fighter Battalions of the People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs Soldiers Killed in Kursk Defense in Autumn, 1941
Abstract
Using historical method, retroductive reasoning, statistical data and an array of yet unintroduced into scientific use archival papers and printed media the author describes the role of the regional archives in restoring the memory of the citizen militia and fighter battalions of the People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs soldiers killed in battle in the end of October - beginning of November, 1941 defending Kursk against Nazies. The article showcases the process and results of research of the Kursk historians, local history experts and volunteers searching for war graves, which serve the cause of perpetuating the memory of Home Guard soldiers and their contribution the city defense in September, 1941 alongside the Red Army battalions.
