War time diaries: everyday life history

Annotation

The article is devoted to scientific analysis of the contents of Soviet citizens Great Patriotic war diaries. It is argued that a diary is a means of overcoming life’s difficulties in an extreme situation. It is concluded that diaries’ specificities depend on where they were kept in the front-line or in the rear. The article also considers possibilities and future trends of using diaries in a nowadays historiographical situation.
