Annotation

The article is about the procedure of composition of military muster rolls “desyatni” in Russia in 17th century. The main conclusion is that the composition of “desyatni” was a complicated and many-stage process. The fist and important step in this process was the collection of “skazki” the inquests of the provincial gentry.
